Moberg Gallery Art Consultant TJ Moberg worked with RDG architecture firm to decide the best areas of the new hospital wing in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the greatest impact of art on patients, visitors, and staff. Using Iowa artists exclusively, 18 artists were chosen, for a total of 60 works of art. Moberg also worked with technicians at RDG to ensure the best lighting fixtures were installed to light the art properly.
Mahaska County artist Marybeth Heikes was chosen for commissioned works, which incorporate maps of Mahaska Co. Tom Moberg’s “Healing Trees,” a site-specific wall installation is in the entryway common area of the hospital. Local artist Teresa Vander Linden was commissioned to create five mixed media works with paint and photography in order to represent Mahaska Co. Multiple works from Bill Luchsinger are included in the collection, as well as a grouping of paintings, both abstract and figurative, by Chris Vance, for the pediatric waiting room. Artists Ken Allsup and Bob Bergazyn are also represented. All artworks were created with the city of Oskaloosa and Mahaska County in mind, including work incorporating Chief Mahaska (White Cloud), the courthouse, Indian Hills community college, antique farm equipment, and the town square.
